LOCHGILPHEAD lies along the north shore of Loch Gilp, an extension of Loch Fyne.


LOCHGILPHEAD, population approx 2000, is situated 38 miles south of OBAN and 55 miles north of CAMPBELTOWN. Lochgilphead is the administrative center for ARGYLL & BUTE DISTRICT, with the council's headquarters situated in KILMORY CASTLE. Kilmory Castle has beautiful gardens, with a world famous collection of Rhododendrons. They are open to the public all the year round, admission is free. Lochgilphead's near neighbour ARDRISHAIG, is famous as the Loch Fyne entrance to the CRINAN CANAL.

The CRINAN CANAL joins Loch Fyne to the west coast and is the gateway to the INNER HEBRIDES and the WESTERN ISLES for fishing boats and yachts.
